Walker tanks and other artwork pt. 2

Welcome to pt. 2. Today's vehicle is a British walking tank HY-23 based after the M3 Grant. It is heavily armed with a 17-pounder gun, a pair of 37mms and eleven 7.62mm machine guns. It has a crew of nine and is designed for fighting other walkers. The HY-23 is a reasonably effective, but clumsy design. It also has a bottom escape/entry hatch and can kneel to make it easier for the crew to mount up. The HY-23 can manage 10-12 mph, powered by a 400hp gasoline engine. the engine catches fire easily however, and crews are quick to bail out, as the 37mm ammo stowage for the rear turret is situated right next to the engine (the rear turret is uncomfortably hot) in the event of a conflagration  the ammunition usually catches fire seconds after the engine does and the rest of the tank and it's ammo will quickly brew up after. The armor protection is considerable, but otherwise unremarkable. The highlight of the HY-23 is it's 17-pounder gun which gives excellent armor penetration. Merry Christmas!-Andrew

  1. Wow. That's one amazing piece of machinery.

"Tomorrow is the judgment day!!!!" (Uh, sorry. Les Mis.) What I meant was, tomorrow is SW7!!! I can't wait! (Incidentally, this will also be my first visit to a real, live movie theater. So . . . yeah. I'm pretty psyched.)

  3. Nice sketch. The HY-23 sounds like a real beast. What caliber in mm's is a 17 pounder gun? Hmm, perhaps 11 7.62mm machine guns is a bit much, there are only 9 crewmembers so 2 of them would have to use double mg's. Also presuming each crewman weighs 200 lb's the tank would weigh an extra 1800 pounds. given 500 rounds of ammo for each mg 5500 machine gun rounds would be carried. But i'm just nitpicking, the tank is really cool.

I plan to see SW7 some time this week. No spoilers:)

    1. Yeah, actually, I didn't look closely enough at my own drawing, because there are really 12 MGs. 3 coaxials for each gun. The rear turret cupola has two, and there are 4 on each side of the hull. The 8 hull MGs are fired like aircraft MGs, they are just fixed in place. I don't make up all the details on paper, alot of this I just made up as I was writing the post. I was actually confused as to how I had 9 crew members but I guess it must go like this: main 37mm turret has three (commander, gunner, loader) rear turret has two (loader and commander/gunner) the 17 pdr has a loader and gunner, and the driver has an assistant (either that or the 17 pdr has 3 crew members) perhaps the driver assistant could fire the hull guns. So it's not like I worked every detail out. I like your attention to detail though, it's fun to debate how these types of designs would work. SW7...... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. BTW, would you say SWBF 2 is still a good game? It's old obviously, but is it a good game besides?

    3. It has been years since I played SWBF2 so i'm a little rusty. I would say that it is still a good game, built by DICE, the studio who make the Battlefield series, it uses a similar engine to Battlefield 1942. The game is very fun and the class system is fun, you can play as a droideka with an energy shield and lots of other classes with special stuff like flamethrowers etc.
Here is a link to another blog with an article on SWBF 1 and 2
      http://jandjproductions1809.blogspot.com/2015/12/top-10-star-wars-video-games-5-1.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+JandjProductions+%28JandJ+Productions%29

So a 17pounder is roughly 76.2 mm, a big gun. Cool idea, with each turret having multiple coaxials.

    4. Well, each turret has one coaxial each, but yeah, the rear cupola has two MGs in addition to the coaxial. Thanks for the SWBF info, I'll being checking out that link. Speaking of 17 pdrs WT added British tanks to the game. Not all of them are playable yet, but starting the 19th I will have a chance to build up points and take part in the closed beta. I hope I can make it, some players already had them, I assume they are are playing with a different regional setting, since they have them a day early. I knocked out a Churchill 75mm GMC using my Panzer 4 F2.

    5. So, my brother says I was wrong about DICE making SWBF 2 and what engine it uses, but it is still lots of fun. And the space battles are tons of fun also. Cool, british tanks!

    6. Yeah, I didn't think it was made by Dice, but I didn't really know. I thought the engine made sense though. I might look into getting it sometime, me and my sister are watching all the SW in order, we are watching 4 right now. We saw 3 for only the second time that one is SO amazing and epic, rewatching the prequels though, so many flaws... but Eps. 3 made up for a lot of those blunders (poor/emotionless acting and Jar Jar ha ha) the computer generated images really improved compared to 1 and 2 as well I think.

    7. Yeah, if you play a battle with atleast 80% battle activity you can get a premium British A13 tank. It isn't really much different from the standard A13 as far as I can tell (other than markings/camo), but hey, I'll take it.

  4. Also, SWBF 2 covers original trilogy as well right?
